展覽的想法

等到下次見面,太久了,今天在聽演講時,立即有的想法,先打上來,相信大家也有很多想法,大家一起來想吧!
  • 塗鴨牆:這是式萱和育瑄在報告鴨子開公車時想到的。但那時想到的是讓小朋友畫鴿子,小朋友大朋友畫出來的鴿子,肯定不會像開公車的那隻鴿子。今天鍾秉宏學長講到他在Sketch Up展中請建築師和來賓在主題牆上畫直線,真是個好點子,畫直線大家會覺得很簡單,實際上不簡單。小朋友應該會很想在牆上畫東畫西,這種在家中父母不讓做的事情,就要在展場中讓小朋友做;小朋友畫了,大朋友(爸爸媽媽)也會心動,會比來比去。

  • 多媒體播放牆:因為國立台中圖書館的新館要更名為國立公共資訊圖書館。一直都有想說,要怎麼樣讓我們的展覽有點數位元素。好像是秋燕在介紹海底來的秘密時,有播放一小段影片。Leo Lioni在毛毛蟲50(?)歲時也有製作一段影片。如果蒐集到這些影片剪輯成組,在展場播放,不知是否可行。
    幫我寄繪本回來的朋友,建議可以同時展出國內繪本作家,如果是這樣的話,就可以學習鍾學長和Lioni的作法,訪問Illustrators和他們的工作室/畫室。
  • 繪本的梗:演講結束後和冠穎在看The Red Sing on the Treetop《樹梢唱歌的紅鳥》時教我的。對了,今晚坐在我旁邊的是陳冠穎學姐,她很會畫畫,在政大圖書館辦過很多很受歡迎的活動。冠穎說看繪本的樂趣就是找到作者所設計的伏筆,像The Red這本書我原來只注意到The Red這隻樹稍的紅鳥往右飛,繪本就一頁一頁展現一年四季不同的顏色,而且講到春天綠色Green就用綠色的字。今天跟冠穎一起看才發現,這本書好有趣喔,有一位主人翁和一隻白色小狗,他們幾乎在每頁都出現,衣服的款式和顏色都反映四季,而且都有延續性。為什麼說「幾乎」呢,因為我們有一頁沒找到那隻戴皇冠的小狗。冠穎還發現那隻紅鳥到某一頁後,嘴巴上咬著一條線,還猜咬的是不是風箏的線。
    冠穎建議我們,在介紹繪本時,要幫讀者找到畫家的這些梗,這樣父母或說故事的人,就可以帶著大家一起尋寶或探索。
  • 做紀念品:這部分要跟國中圖再研究研究。
  • Grouping 繪本。300本繪本,實在有點多,照年代,很難共鳴;按Illustrators,很多都只有一本,等於沒排;所以還是要找出主題來grouping。
    鍾學長提到畫法等很不錯,建議大家再想想,我把它列在下一點:繪本特徵。
  • 繪本特徵:請大家想想所介紹的繪本有那些特徵,諸如:
    適讀年齡;
    畫法;
    主角;
    主題;

  • 誠品外文報之寫法。
  • 繪本封面的應用。我有買一本書是介紹繪本的封面,這本書的封面就是一堆繪本的封面,但是經過選擇編排的。
  • Target的對象是誰?
  • 最後想呈現出來的是什麼?要讓觀眾得到什麼樣的體驗?
  • 設計互動體驗

蘭道夫‧凱迪克(Randolph Caldecott)

其實我們上回上課的那天晚上剛好是蘭道夫的生日,我拿了書和電腦準備給大家看約翰吉平騎馬飛奔過街市,結果因為報告的同學講得太精彩演得太生動了,我聽到渾然忘我,把蘭道夫完全抛到腦後了。回家後才想起來,也是那天(3/22)的晚上開始寫這篇文章。本來只想簡單介紹一下,可是寫著寫著就忘我了,放著正事不做,從Million Books Project中把所有蘭道夫的書都點了一遍,好想一本一本介紹給大家,投在大螢幕上,應該看得比較清楚。



蘭道夫‧凱迪克是英國的藝術家和插畫家(British artist and illustrator),生於1846322日,卒於1886212日,享年39歲。美國圖書館學會的凱迪克繪本獎(Caldecott Medal)就是以其名設立獎項。


Walter Crane1845-1915)、Randolph Caldecott1846-1886)和Kate Greenaway1846-1901,英國童書以其名命名)與當時著名的出版家Edmund Evans1826-1905)合作出版彩色圖畫書,開啟童書插畫的黃金時代,三位畫家的出色藝術才華改寫了插畫的歷史,吸引大衆關注插畫藝術,推動插畫藝術的發展,因此並列為英國最具影響力的童書畫家。



生平



蘭道夫‧凱迪克(1846年至1886年)在維多利亞時代改變了童書的世界。每年聖誕節,小朋友都熱切地期待他畫的兩本書出版,每本書售價一先令,持續八年。


然而,蘭道夫的作品不只是小說插畫,還有他出國旅行的見聞,同時以幽默風趣的風格描繪打獵和時尚生活,也畫卡通,畫素描將國會殿堂(Parliament)的內部與外觀精緻描繪,同時還在英國皇家學院(Royal Academy)和藝廊展出其雕塑、油畫和水彩畫。



蘭道夫於1846322日生於切斯特(Chester)大橋街150號(今16號),現在一樓立有牌匾以茲紀念,上面寫著:蘭道夫凱迪克(1846-1886):藝術家、插畫家和雕塑家生於此(plaque)。蘭道夫的父親約翰‧凱迪克(John Caldecott)是切斯特當地的商人,也是相當有名的會計師,結兩次婚育有13名子女。蘭道夫是第一任妻子(Mary Dinah)所生的第三個小孩。1848年蘭道夫全家搬到克魯克街(Crook Street)的查洛納宅(Challoner House),1860年再搬到鮑頓(Boughton)的Richmond Place 23號。蘭道夫上學的後五年所就讀的The King's School,剛好位在市中心大教堂。在蘭道夫小的時候,畫的都是動物,模型做的也是動物,他的一生都貢獻給繪畫。在切斯特唸書時期,蘭道夫曾畫了一張弟弟的油畫。。



蘭道夫在15歲時離開學校,到Whitchurch & Ellesmere 銀行在Whitchurch的分行當行員,住在鎮外的小村莊Wirswall。在閒暇時間和外出拜訪客戶時,他經常步行或騎馬經過農村,後來在他的很多插畫中都可以看到Cheshire的建築和風景。蘭道夫喜歡騎馬,更喜歡騎馬打獵,這些豐富經驗加上對動物的熱情,累積了大量有關獵場的草圖和素描,當中充滿幽默詼諧。1861年,蘭道夫離開學校,出版第一本畫作《皇后鐵道飯店的火災》(fire at the Queen Railway Hotel),素描發生在Chester的一場災難,127日刊登於Illustrated London News


Whitchurch上班六年後,蘭道夫搬到Manchester & Salford Bank在曼徹斯特(Manchester)的總部,先後居住在Aberdeen StreetRusholme GroveBowdon。他藉機在曼徹斯特藝術學校(the Manchester School of Art)讀夜校,持續學習,成功地在當地報紙和一些倫敦刊物中發表作品。從這個時候開始,蘭道夫養成一個習慣,會信紙、報紙和文件的空白處畫畫,為內容畫插圖或配上詼諧的素描。蘭道夫的部分信件和插圖已經由Michael Hutchings編輯出版Yours Pictorially1870年,蘭道夫經由一位倫敦朋友(畫家Thomas Armstrong)的引介認識London Society的主編Henry Blackburn,並在該月刊中刊載數期的插畫。



1872年蘭道夫26歲,成功在雜誌中發表作品,證明自己有能力以藝術養活自己,受到鼓舞的蘭道夫,決定辭去工作,搬到倫敦。在兩年內,蘭道夫成為專職的雜誌插畫家。他的作品包括個人的素描、為其他文章畫插畫以及他與Henry Blackburn到德國哈茨山(Hartz Mountains)旅遊的一系列假期畫作(之後衍生成數個系列作品)。蘭道夫在倫敦持續住了七年,多半住在Bloomsbury市中心大英博物館(British Museum)對面的大羅素街46號(46 Great Russell Street)。此時期,蘭道夫結識諸多藝術家和文人雅士,其中包括Rosetti, George du Maurier (Punch雜誌的專屬作者), Millais and Leighton。蘭道夫因與佛雷德利克‧利頓(Frederick Leighton,其後受封為佛雷德利克‧利頓公爵Lord Frederick Leighton)的交情而委任其設計在Kensington的利頓別墅(Leighton House)中阿拉伯廳的四柱孔雀首(Walter Crane為此廳設計孔雀瓦楣)。



1869年,蘭道夫有一幅畫掛在曼徹斯特皇家學會(Royal Manchester Institute),1876年其畫作第一次掛在皇家美術學院(Royal Academy)。蘭道夫也是一位水彩畫家,於1872年獲選英國皇家學會水彩畫家殊榮。



Edmund Evans是一位彩色印刷廠老闆和天才雕刻師,在1877年結束與童書插畫家Walter Crane的合作關係,轉而尋求與蘭道夫合作,為將在聖誕節出版的兩本童書畫插畫;在1878年出版《傑克蓋的房子》The House that Jack Built和《約翰吉平的快樂生活》The Diverting History of John Gilpin (中譯書名為:瘋漢騎馬)非常成功,於是兩人持續合作,每年都在聖誕節前歹出版兩書童書,直到蘭道夫逝世,共計16本作品。這些作品的故事和童謠都是蘭道夫親身精選,有些還是蘭道夫自己寫的或是加以潤飾增加的。另一方面,蘭道夫接續其The Hartz Mountains系列插畫,另外還為Washington Irving畫兩本書的插畫,為Juliana Ewing畫三本書的插畫,為Henry Blackburn的四本書畫插畫,還有Captain Marryatt及其他多位作者各畫一本書的插畫。其中大家最為景仰的作品是高更(Gaugin)和梵谷(Van Gogh)。



蘭道夫繼續旅行,部分是因為其健康的因素,部分是因為他想要將旅行中所見所聞畫出來,這些畫作(drawings)都相當幽默,每幅都有標題和簡短的說明。



1879年,蘭道夫搬到肯特郡的Wybournes(但不知道房子是買的還是租的),?Kemsing。在這裏蘭道夫認識了Marian Brind,她住在七英里遠的Chelsfield;他們在1880年結婚,並且在此居住兩年,兩人沒有生小孩。1882年秋天,蘭道夫離開肯特郡,在SurreyFrensham買了一棟房子-Broomfield,同時在肯辛頓(Kensington)租了荷蘭街24號。1884年,蘭道夫的12本童謠(Nursery Rhymes)的銷售量高達867,000冊,響譽國際。



蘭道夫的健康一直都不太好,您深受胃炎和心臟病所苦。也就是因為他的健康狀況,冬季他大都會前往地中海或其他氣候溫暖的地方;在他到美國旅行時,病情再度發作。蘭道夫與其妻Marian搭船到紐約,暢遊東岸,當他們到達佛羅里達州時,剛好碰上異常寒冷的二月,蘭道夫病倒了,在1886212日於聖奧古斯丁(St. Augustine)過世。他還不到40歲,英年早逝。墓園的墓碑(headstone)上指引大家著名童書畫家安眼於此,美國蘭道夫凱迪克學會還在網頁上為遊客指引路線。

凱迪克所出版的16本童書,古騰堡計畫和百萬圖書計畫都有收錄,古騰堡計畫是以HTML網頁呈現,但提供多種閱讀器之版本(下面超連結為網頁),百萬圖書計畫則提供網頁、PDF等多種檔案格式。

Jack and the Beanstalk 這本書是在蘭道夫過世後才出版的,蘭道夫在病逝前畫好了大部分的草稿,在他過世後Hallam Tennyson幫他整理出版。因為蘭道夫比Hallam有名,所以書名頁,蘭道夫的名字印刷較為醒目。

蘭道夫其實是先幫雜誌和作家畫插畫出名後,才從事童書的插畫創作的,所以除了前述16本童書外,還有多部插畫作品。但這些作品古騰堡計畫就不見得全數收錄了.

美國凱迪克繪本獎得獎作品

ALA the Caldecott Medal Winners

美國圖書館學會之凱迪克獎1938年為紀念繪本作家Randolph Caldecott以來到2010共有74本金牌獎繪本(Winners加上銀牌獎繪本(Honor Books),共計302共有170位畫家得獎。其中以Marcia Brown有九本繪本得獎是最大贏家;其次是Maurice Sendak的八本,Jerry PinkneyMarie Hall Ets各有六本得獎,David WiesnerRobert McCloskey則各有五本得獎。
